New Poll: 55% of Hawaii Residents Support the Freedom to Marry

January 28, 2013

A new poll released today demonstrates that there is growing support for the freedom to marry for same-sex couples in Hawaii! The poll, conducted by Anzalone Liszt Grove Research and commissioned by Equality Hawaii Foundation, shows that Hawaii residents overwhelmingly support marriage equality by an 18-point margin.

55% of respondents said that they support legally extending marriage to gay and lesbian couples, while only 37% were opposed.

Donald Bentz, the Executive Director of Equality Hawaii, and a member of our coalition, celebrated today’s poll findings:

“These numbers mirror what national polls are showing, that a clear majority of the public supports allowing gay and lesbian couples to be legally married.  Even among the older generation of voters in Hawaii, we see majority support for the freedom to marry.”
